Vivien Oswell is a renowned artist based in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, known for her evocative landscapes and seascapes that capture the region's natural beauty. Her artistic journey began in her teenage years, initially retouching photographs for professional photographers. She later explored rug hooking, creating intricate patterns, including a notable portrait of Christ. This endeavor led her sister to gift her a set of oil paints, prompting Vivien to pursue painting more seriously.

In 1954, Vivien and her husband relocated to Cape Cod, where he pursued boat building at Allen Harbor. She became an active member and leader in organizations such as the Guild of Harwich Artists, the Cape Cod Art Association, and the Provincetown Art Association. Another piece, "Still life of two shorebird decoys," sold for $125 in 2023, reflecting the appreciation for her detailed and evocative compositions. She was once commissioned to paint a portrait of a prominent businessman for his corporate office, earning $7,500 for the piece.​
